A Major Chord

Consists of A, C#, E and is to be played :

E A D G B E
_ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ 2 3 4 _

Minor Chord Rule

This follows from the Major chord rule, in that, once the notes constituting the major chord have been worked out, the 3rd note that we picked is to be flattened.

So, if we had C Major consisting of - C, E, G, then C Minor would be - C, D#, G because E flat is D#.

Going on with this rule of 1, 3b, 5, we would get 12 minor chords from A minor to G minor.

Major Chord Rule

Take any major scale, say C Major. Pick the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes from the scale. For example in the case of C Major scale - C, E, G

These three notes, played together would constitute the C Major chord.

Taking D Major scale, we get - D, F#, A as the three notes that would make up the D Major scale.

Proceeding this way, we would have 12 major chords from A Major to G Major.
